David Cuellar, LMSW
Associate Therapist
David Cuellar is a psychotherapist who helps adults better understand the patterns, beliefs, and emotional experiences that influence how they navigate their lives, relationships, and sense of self. He believes that meaningful change begins with awareness—recognizing how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact—and learning how to respond to life’s challenges with greater flexibility, confidence, and intention.
David works with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, grief, life transitions, relationship difficulties, self-esteem concerns, identity exploration, obsessive thinking, emotional dysregulation, and the lingering effects of trauma. He also has a particular interest in supporting individuals navigating cultural expectations, racial and ethnic identity concerns, feelings of belonging, and the unique stressors that can impact individuals from diverse and historically marginalized communities.
His therapeutic style balances compassion with accountability. David creates a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe exploring difficult emotions while also being challenged to examine unhelpful patterns that may be preventing growth. Rather than focusing solely on diagnosis, he works collaboratively with clients to identify meaningful goals, develop practical coping strategies, and build the skills necessary to create lasting change. His ultimate goal is to help clients become more resilient, self-aware, and confident in their ability to navigate life’s complexities both inside and outside of therapy.
David utilizes an integrative, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach to treatment, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), relational therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, and other evidence-based modalities. He tailors treatment to each individual’s needs, recognizing that every person’s experiences, challenges, and path toward healing are unique.
David received his academic training at Fordham University and completed his clinical training at Columbia University’s School of Social Work. Throughout his training and professional experience, he has worked in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and community-based settings serving diverse populations with a broad range of mental health concerns. His experience includes supporting individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, substance use concerns, grief and loss, trauma, and significant life transitions.
In addition to his clinical experience, David has completed advanced training in suicide assessment and intervention, clinical documentation, and evidence-based mental health treatment. He remains committed to ongoing professional development and continuing education to ensure he provides thoughtful, culturally responsive, and effective care.
David believes that therapy is ultimately about strengthening the relationship people have with themselves. By helping clients better understand their inner experiences, challenge self-defeating patterns, and build healthier coping skills, he supports them in creating lives that feel more balanced, meaningful, and aligned with their values.
