COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR
Amanda Mahon is the Community Outreach Coordinator at Gateway to Solutions. She is currently pursuing her Master of Social Work at NYU. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ithaca College with a Bachelors of Science in Applied Psychology while also minoring in Sport and Exercise Psychology.
While at Ithaca College, Amanda demonstrated exceptional leadership as part of her research team. She played a pivotal role in the Emerging Adulthood Lab, leading a team of peers in conducting groundbreaking research. Amanda’s work explored the relationship between social media usage and interpersonal connections among emerging adults and was presented at the 26th annual James J. Whalen Academic Symposium. Her research, nominated for an outstanding research award, underscored its significant impact and high quality. Amanda also presented her findings on parental favoritism at the Eastern Psychology Association in the spring of 2024.
Currently, Amanda is a Clinical Intern at the Staten Island Criminal Justice Center, serving on the Supervised Release Program team. Her responsibilities include conducting intakes, needs assessments, and case management with clients affected by the justice system. Post-MSW, Amanda is determined to obtain licensure as an LCSW and practice in a clinical setting. Her ultimate goal is to contribute meaningfully to the mental well-being of individuals, couples, and families.
Since June 2023, Amanda has been interning at the FDNY Counseling Services Unit in Manhattan. Her role involves close collaboration with the program director to manage the peer support initiative, implement suicide prevention strategies, and complete client intake. Additionally, she provides support to clinicians by aiding in group therapy sessions.
At Gateway to Solutions, Amanda plays a pivotal role as the author of our monthly blogs, working under the guidance of John Carnesecchi, LCSW, CEAP, GTS’s founder and clinical director. Her work, which is clinically reviewed by John Carnesecchi, LCSW, CEAP, before publication, is a significant part of our online presence. Amanda also leverages her social media skills and outreach efforts to engage the community, offering valuable mental health content and promoting our clinicians’ skill sets and expertise.
Amanda is eager to bring her assertiveness and passion for learning to a clinical setting, particularly in her collaboration with GTS clinicians. As she progresses in her master’s of social work program, she is committed to actively engaging in learning, conducting research, and gaining a deeper understanding of diverse therapeutic approaches.
